2011 Iowa Recruiting: Defensive back

Current Players

Seniors: 3 - Greiner, Rowell, Greenwood
Juniors: 5 - Bernstine, Sash, Lowe, Donatell, Prater
Sophomores: 5 - Castillo, Sleeper, Hyde, Nielsen, Swanson
RS Freshmen: 1 - Edwards
Freshmen: 4 - Hitchens, Lowery, Shumpert, Miller

Iowa's junior class is pretty stocked. Potentially 3 starters in the secondary could come from the juniors(Sash, Prater, and Bernstine) and the 4th starter will be a senior (Greenwood). There is a little bit of depth at both safety and cornerback though, as injuries have given some of the younger guys a chance to get some experience. Hyde could start his next 3 years. Swanson and Nielsen filled in during spring practice at safety. Castillo also saw considerable playing time last year. So for recruiting, the real need is to maintain the depth in the secondary to prepare for 2012, when all the now juniors are gone.

Quick Iowa Season Ticket Update

I still have not heard anything from the ticket office about the status of my order, but I have read about numerous people who have. So I'm sitting here constantly rechecking my email every few minutes. Anyway, things haven't gotten a whole lot clearer yet so I use the word "update" in the title pretty loosely. However, Hawkeye State over on BHGP is investigating (or rather, is efforting) the whole season ticket situation. So I am eagerly awaiting his post. For now, here's a summary of what I've read from around the internet.

2011 Iowa Recruiting: Defensive line

Current Players

Seniors: 4 - Clayborn, Klug, Ballard, Forgy
Juniors: 4 - Daniel, Nardo, Binns, Daniels
Sophomores: 2 - Bigach, Gaglione
RS Freshmen: 4 - Hopkins, Snyder, Covert, Alvis
Freshmen: 6 - Trinca-Pasat, Ferguson, Davis, Heissel, Johnson, Hardy

The last two classes of defensive linemen have been large and talented (at least at the high school level). However, with Clayborn, Klug, and Ballard all leaving after this year, the defensive line will be a priority for the Hawkeyes to figure out next summer. The current junior class looks strong, but that leaves 2012 even more bare when those guys graduate. Hopefully there will be some opportunities for some of the young guys to get some game experience either on special teams or during a blowout.

About those season tickets...

The University of Iowa Athletic Ticket Office put out a doozie of a release out on hawkeyesports.com. It was titled Ticket Requests More Than Double Available Inventory. Great title, huh? Well, great besides the fact that it isn't true. The post says that there were 7,300 new season ticket requests for 2,300 people, but only 4,500 tickets available. I think they need to double check their math because more than double 4,500 is any number greater than 9,000--not 7,300. And, that's just the beginning...
