The Big XII seems more and more likely to dissolve each day now. The latest popular scenario has the Pac-10 absorbing 6 teams (Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and either Baylor or Colorado) and the Big Ten taking 2 (Nebraska and Missouri). That would leave Iowa State outside a BCS Conference and left scrambling.

I was hoping my first post back from vacation would be good news about Iowa Football, but unfortunately the biggest story right now is on a couple of arrest. Shockingly, the arrests are alcohol related. Now a year after the news broke that both of these players with miss the 2009 season with injuries, it's likely that they'll miss a couple of games in 2010.

I never had season tickets when I was in college. I'll admit, football wasn't my top priority as a student and I probably only went to 3 or 4 games in my few years at Iowa (I did watch the games on TV though). After college, I attended grad school at UNI, got married, and had a kid...never with season tickets. I took my wife to her first Iowa game 2 years ago against Penn State. That was the only game I made it to in 2008. Then last year my wife and I went to the Arizona game and my brother scored some alumni tickets to the homecoming game against Michigan. So I went with him. My season ticket story starts there...at the homecoming game.

It was announced today that the Iowa - Iowa State game will kick off at 2:30 and be aired on ABC (Regional) & ESPN2. This announcement came with a list of 4 other Big Ten games that will air on the ABC/ESPN family during the first 3 weeks of the season. This is just the second time ever both teams are coming off of bowl victories (the 2005 season followed wins by Iowa in the Capitol One Bowl and Iowa State in the Independence Bowl) , so there could actually be some legitimate (though probably small) interest outside of the state of Iowa.

I'm headed to Washington, D.C. on Thursday and will be gone for about a week. We're driving out to see a couple of friends and to go to the museums and monuments, etc... So, for the next 10 days or so, posting on this site will probably me minimum. I'm taking the laptop and my iPod Touch, so with as long as I have wi-fi I should be able to post a few times but it'll likely only be about breaking news (like if I get an email from the ticket office).
