Iowa's schedule as color swatch cards

I was messing around the other day and made this. I put it on what I'm calling Fight For Iowa - Extras. It's just another way to visualize this year's schedule.

Commit for Iowa: Trevon Young

Trevon Young is the second in-state player to commit to Iowa (the other is Ike Boettger). Young is from Des Moines and plays for Lincoln High School (same school as Jordan Bernstine and Adam Robinson). He is being brought in as an outside linebacker with the thought of moving him to defensive end once he puts on a few pounds.

High School

Last year Lincoln tore through the Metro League, but lossed in the second round of the Iowa 4A playoffs. They finished 9-2. Young was a big part of the Railsplitters' success. He had 61 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries as a junior playing DE and LB. He also played some as a wide receiver.

Commit for Iowa: Solomon Warfield

Solomon Warfield is a safety from Lakewood, OH. He is the third player to commit from Ohio, which is part of Brian Ferentz’s recruiting grounds (BF’s paying off already). He has an impressive list of offers including Penn State, Illinois, Pitt, Michigan State, and Arizona.

High School

Warfield attends St. Edwards High School. Last year the Eagles went 8-4 and made it to the second round of the Division 1 Ohio playoffs. Like many of the best athletes in high school, Warfield was his teams single safety in charge of cleaning up anything that got by the front 10.

Commit for Iowa: Ike Boettger

Ike Boettger was one of two instate kids to commit to Iowa on June 24 (the other was Trevon Young). Boettger is a tight end from Cedar Falls. He is the type of player Iowa usually picks up later in the recruiting process (instate, no other offers, best athlete on team so plays quarterback, etc…), like in January, but this year has been wildly different and he got offered and committed in June.

High School

Boettger led the Cedar Falls Tigers to an 11-2 season making it all the way to the state semi-finals. Sure, a lot of what he did was hand the ball off to incoming Iowa running back Barkley Hill, but he was also a decent QB. He went 58 of 95 passing for 750 yards, 9 TDs, and 1 INT.

Commit for Iowa: Sean Welsh

Sean Welsh was the second to commit on June 22, behind Andre Harris. Welsh is an offensive lineman from Ohio. He is one of the more heavily recruited players thus far in Iowa's recruiting class with offers from schools like Miami, Kansas, and West Virginia.

High School

Welsh plays for the Springboro Panthers in Springboro, OH. In 2011, Springboro only won 3 games (all on the road). Hopefully things will go better for the Panthers this year. Welsh is doing his part as the voted off-season captain of the team.
