Big Ten Spring Football Wrap Up

Spring practice is now over for all of the Big Ten football teams. We now have a long 4 month wait before fall camp starts up. As a football blogger, it's tough to not have news to report on everyday, but it gives me a chance to sit down and actually spend a day or two writing a post, like this one. Anyway, through just 15 practices it's hard to get all the answers about the teams in the Big Ten this year, especially with just 1 chance to actually see the teams play. But there are some things to be learned and a couple of interesting position battles to watch.

A.J. Edds and Kyle Calloway Drafted

It was a record draft for the Iowa Hawkeyes who had 6 players selected, the 5th most of any school this year. (Florida had 9, Alabama 7, USC 7, and Oklahoma 7.) It was the most Hawkeyes drafted in the Ferentz's tenure and the most since 1976 which also saw 6 taken. On Saturday, the last 2 Hawkeyes were drafted as A.J. Edds and Kyle Calloway were selected in the 4th and 7th round respectively. They joined Bryan Bulaga, Pat Angerer, Amari Spievey, and Tony Moeaki as the 6 Hawkeyes drafted.

Angerer, Spievey, and Moeaki Drafted

It was a big night for 3 former Iowa Hawkeyes as Pat Angerer, Amari Spievey, and Tony Moeaki were all drafted. Through 3 rounds, the Hawkeyes have had 4 players selected. Bryan Bulaga was drafted by Green Bay in round 1 yesterday night. There are likely 2 more players that will be drafted tomorrow, A.J. Edds and Kyle Calloway, and possibly 3 if a team gives Dace Richardson a chance.

Bryan Bulaga drafted by Green Bay

Well it came a lot later than all the experts predicted, but Bryan Bulaga became a 1st round draft pick tonight as the 23rd overall selection. Bulaga was drafted by the Green Bay Packers as their 1st pick. Bulaga was the 4th offensive tackle selected and the 2nd Big Ten player (Brandon Graham was the first).
