2011 Iowa Recruiting: Running backs

Current Players

Seniors: 1 - O'Meara
Juniors: 0
Sophomores: 4 - Wegher, Robinson, Hampton, White
RS Freshmen: 1 - Rogers
Freshmen: 4 - Johnson, Jordan, Coker

The logjam at running back no longer seems to be a problem. Jeff Brinson and Josh Brown both left the program and 5 of the 6 running backs had some kind of injury during spring practice. Robinson had surgery, Wegher sustained a minor shoulder injury, Paki had a knee thing I think, Hampton was "recovering" from his ACL tear from last year, and Rogers got dinged up in the spring game. So, though Iowa fans don't need any reminder of the importance of a deep pool of running back, this spring just reiterated it.

2011 Iowa Recruiting: Quarterbacks

Current Players

Seniors: 1 - Stanzi
Juniors: 0
Sophomores: 2 - Vandenberg, Wienke
RS Freshmen: 1 - Suess
Freshmen: 4 - Derby, Vier, Haluska, McMillan

The Hawkeyes are set at quarterback through 2012 with Stanzi the starter this year and Vandenberg the likely starter in '11 and '12. With Weinke around there should be a good backup though 2012 too. If Derby pans out at quarterback (which I think he will) and he redshirts this year, then Iowa could be set all the way through 2014. A good backup will be crucial though, especially if Derby is used to run the ball a lot increasing his chance of injury. I don't think any of the other QBs currently on Iowa's roster have a real chance at starting and I think Vier will change positions (TE probably) sooner than later.

Recruiting Week

I am probably setting myself up for failure here by announcing that I'm going to do a week on recruiting. I never do very well when I plan on doing a series of posts...I typically get busy, lazy, or just run out of time and don't finish the series. In this case though, I've already got a decent start writing, so hopefully it'll actually come together.
