Iowa picked up another commit Sunday night and it was confirmed the next morning to be Riley McMinn by HawkeyeInsider.com. McMinn is a defensive end out of Illinois, making him just the second defensive player and tenth overall to commit to Iowa. He is rated 3-stars by both Scout and Rivals.

McMinn in High School

McMinn attends Rochester High School in Rochester, Illinois. The Rockets were quite the football team last year that averaged nearly 48 points per game and won their first 12 games before falling in the Illinois Class 4A Semifinals by 1 point (after a failed 2-point conversion with just seconds left in the game) to the eventual state champs. Throughout the season McMinn made big plays that helped his team win, including fumble recoveries, blocking a punt for a safety. McMinn was First Team All Corn Belt conference.

Stats:
  • Defense - 67 tackles, 18 TFLs, 11 sacks (I've also seen 13 TFLs and 5.5 sacks)

Video!
PlannedSickDays dug up a couple of videos of McMinn. Here's one (McMinn's the really tall one - 6-7, 220):

So that wasn't really football related...I don't even know what that was. Sorry.

Anyway. McMinn is certainly an interesting prospect. He's tall and lean, but plans on working with Coach Doyle to add some weight. Iowa recruited him as a defensive end, but a 6-7 a few other positions could be a possibility. The Hawkeyes do not need any more tight ends in this class with 3 already (Henry Krieger-Coble, Ray Hamilton, and Jake Duzey), though if he bulks up enough defensive tackle might be a possibility or even a spot on the offensive line. I'd like to see a video of him actually playing football, but for now based on what I've read he sounds like a good pick up.
